The other side of my data I feel like I did not explore it in a deep enough manner, however it has helped me briefly explore illustration. I thought that taking a more illustrative approach to this data was more appropriate. In a workshop all that was available to me was paper and tape, so I created the faces as pictured below. By playing tape over a layout of shapes in order to depict the characters that I drew and cutting around it to make it seem like its almost laminated.

However, eventhough the drawings I had done were data of my dreams, I wish I had recorded my emotions as well to add another level to this data which would have made making the maquettes more interesting. Therefore instead of a fine art approach to the smoking data, I focused on developing my illustration skills.
The mouths that I made with the clay are reminiscent of my drawings, each one showing a different expression but the speech bubbles which go with each one all join together to create a phrase. They are able to be used together or apart, the phrase was one that I heard in my dreams and stuck in my mind most significantly.

I extended this by creating my next maquette which consisted of a larger bit of dialogue from my dream. The piece is knitted and has the dialogue running through it, I liked the idea that it has to be unravelled to be read. I did this by using a black marker to write the dialogue onto the fabric and tearing it off in strips. I joined them together by cutting a hole in the end of one strip then cutting holes in both ends of the second trip and looping it through the hole in the first and then putting the end of the second strip through the other end of it. When I had finished it I put it on a worksheet along with bits and pieces that were involved in the making of it. Pieces which I wanted to knit along with it and the paper underneath has marks on it from where I wrote on the fabric and it went through onto the paper and writing from when I initially wrote out the phrase.

Finally I extended my illustrations further by creating small cardboard cutouts of my characters. These are simply representations of what I wish to do further, if I had more time I would like to animate these in a stop-motion way as a way of representing my data. Since the dreams are in my own head and the data have collected from them are merely snapshots of my data. If I was able to animate the cardboard models it would be a true representation of my dreams, even if they are short snippets. There is something powerful about our dreams they are so personal and tell us a lot about the individual since it is our subconscious mind. I would like to do further research into dreams and nightmares and base another project off them.
