Illustration workshop

The other day whilst in a workshop, at the end we were asked to choose our favourite image that had been produced out of all the work. I chose the following image for the following reasons:

The large bit of black was an accidental ink spill. Even though it was an accident it completely works with the piece. It provides a handmade feel to the piece, you can feel the artist in it as if it is more expressive. The harsh black part is in contrast to the face which is done with light brush strokes, the dichotomy between these parts brings in the viewers eyes. The drips have fallen in the exact right place, as to not obscure the face too much to enough to place a distinctive disruption in the more delicate work on the face.

I simply believe that this is a prime example of how we should not throw away our mistakes and not fret over them as they have the potential to become a piece within themselves.
