UCAS progression

So far with my progression with my university applications I am satisfied but still have a few to go. I have forgotten to update thus far but I have been able to take some interesting points and ideas away from conversations with interviewers or from the day in general.

My first interview was with Kingston and since I have heard back and been offered a conditional place. This interview was probably the best, the tour of the campus was so cool as it was all art, the space for working was huge and the facilities provided many different options. During the interview I was asked two questions; what my most significant piece is and what my inspiration is. It was a group interview so they went round each applicant for their answers. I found it odd how there was no dialogue between the applicants in the interview, I attempted to but they were quite quiet. The questions which they asked were extremely helpful as I had never thought about them before. It was good to think about my art, but away from my art and just think in my mind and not refer back to my work as a crutch. Thinking about the questions, my most significant piece to me was probably my first animation since it opened up this way of working that I felt more comfortable with, when working normally I would never be satisfied with what I produced since it lacked the narrative I had been thinking whilst creating it. Therefore when animating and looking at a finished piece I can happily look at a piece and say I can finish now. As far as inspiration goes, which is normally quite eclectic for me, but something which I can trace through my work is an influence from the 70s/80s and small facts I have found out from my parents. Some of my favourite music is from that period but concepts brought about David Bowie and the freer and androgynous and unafraid nature of music is something which inspires me. It is clear that Kingston was my favourite interview since I have so much to say. We were given small notebooks too which I loved and have used it for my FMP ideas and Berlin. However as much as I love it there I am not sure about going due to the location.

Talking about something else though, my Camberwell interview went well and I have a place too however I feel like I didn’t connect as well as I did with my interviewers in my Kingston interview. The college as a whole is a lot smaller than I expected however the facilities were amazing. Going through the studios and seeing students work out and in progress was something I didn’t see at Kingston but this one students work caught my eye and if I end up going I will have to track him down and ask more about it. I also had some interesting conversations with some tutors for first and third years and I asked about what it’s like to work and change a lot across disciplines. They each told me and discussed their journeys so far and what they want to do next and this helped me feel more comfortable with my changing styles etc. Overall I really liked camberwell and the locations and it is definitely one of my top choices.

LCC on the other hand gave me a place off the bat and since then not much thought has gone into considering it for next year. I have my Westminster interview soon, but again I am not too worried about due to issues with location again. Being far from the centre of London is not something that appeals to me, my work is about people and I want to be in the centre for people. I simply feel like that is where I want to be.

I have an interview at CSM in a few weeks too which I am nervous for naturally as I have been before for foundation and didn’t get in. However, since I have a place at Camberwell I do not feel a lot less pressure since I know Camberwell will be my first choice if I do not get into CSM. However if I do get into CSM then I do not know how I will choose between the two, I guess it depends on also how I feel on the day too when I go there, see the place and meet the people.

Overall I am really excited for next year, I will update again when I have all my decisions from unis in and can confirm my choices.
