Evaluation and reflection on my learning in part one and part two

Considering the work which I did for Part 1 of the course, throughout this period my work was sporadic and I didn’t consider the brief enough, a lot of my work was unsuccessful in meeting the guidelines and was generally underwhelming. The main issue which had to be fixed was how I presented everything as a piece, experimentation and a developing thought process was something which I was lacking. The point where this began to change and I found my own ground was during the Data project, by collecting data about me it demonstrated a clear route in incorporating myself into my work, therefore by bringing in the data from my smoking habit this appealed to the side of me which likes the gritty, grimy and darker aspects. The illustrative pieces which I did then helped me to pinpoint a style which I enjoyed which I was able to continue developing. From this point my style became more expressive which benefitted me as this allowed me to experiment more. In comparison the work which I have done in Part 2 is more informed and I enjoy producing work now, it concerns ideas which I have strong opinions on and enjoy to discuss. By looking at the monstrous side to humanity for Spellbound and how this will affect us in the future for Sustainable futures, I have understood that I have an interest in seeing humans as how they really are, thinking about our more sexual and primal tendencies and considering our darker natures. This has been influenced by artists such as Henrik Drescher and Otto Dix, the main thing that I took away from these artists was the themes which I saw in their work and how they worked in a much rawer and truer style and were not hung up on the pretty and preened. Throughout the course I have remained with the idea of telling a story when I work with a collage style that I can add to and develop until the story is finished. Therefore for my latest project I have taught myself and been experimenting with animation software and toying which how to tell a story through moving picture, my favourite being a story about the fight between man and rubbish in the future. I have decided to continue using this technique due to how with moving picture you can incorporate other aspects such as sound and physical pieces for touch and overall this provides a lot more immersive experience when telling a story.
